Simultaneous, consecutive or whispered interpretation

In simultaneous interpreting, the interpreter works inside an interpreting booth, receives the speech through wired sound equipment, listens to it through headphones and, in this isolated environment, reproduces the speech in another language, into a microphone, so that this interpretation is transmitted by radio waves and received by the participants in the audience through receivers with headphones.

In consecutive interpreting, the interpreter stands next to the speaker and interprets each sentence or paragraph into a specific language, both taking turns speaking. Depending on the length of the sentences and/or the level of complexity of the speech, the interpreter may need to take notes while performing his/her work.

Whispered interpreting is a type of interpreting in which the interpreter sits next to one or two participants and whispers the interpretation of the speech being delivered in the room. This mode is used when only one or two people need to hear the translated speech, eliminating the need for simultaneous interpreting equipment and, consequently, reducing the costs involved.
